The Spinal Column

The spinal column is the body’s main support structure.

Its thirty-three bones, called vertebrae, are divided into five regions: cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral and coccygeal.

  • Cervical: C1 – C7

  • Thoracic: T1 – T12

  • Lumbar: L1 – L5

  • Sacral: S1 – S5

  • Coccygeal: tailbone / coccyx
